Matomo Safari Lodge

The beautiful Matomo Safari Lodge in Welgevonden Game Reserve, South Africa, is a gem of a property. Owned by a Swiss couple, the building dates to the 1990s, but has been completely refurbished, and has a modern, stylish feel. With only 6 rooms, it is sold as an exclusive use lodge, ideal for families or groups of 4 – 10 people who want to spend time together in the African bush.

Welgevonden Game Reserve isn’t as famous as some of South Africa’s parks, but is home to the Big 5 and plenty of wildlife. Located up in the Waterberg Mountains, Welgevonden has an appealingly temperate climate, is malaria-free, and is a convenient 3 hour drive from Johannesburg.

Matomo Safari Lodge is built directly into a cliff-face, and its dramatic views allow guests to enjoy the over 300 species of birds, and superbe African sunsets. Visit bushman caves, dating back 2.3 million years, go on a walking safari, enjoy a game drive, or simply sit by the heated pool, enjoying the view!
